I POLYCHROME

about

The ensemble, formed by Miriam Cipriani, Giulio Bongiascia, Ivan Rondano and Flaviano Rossi, was born at the beginning of 2014 on the base of the experience of the "Aulos" flute quartet, founded in 1994 by Maestro Giuseppe Montrucchio with three of the current components, and active for a decade with considerable public and critic success in Italy and abroad.

All the music players have a proven chamber and orchestral experience, built with prestigious orchestras such as Ente Autonomo del Teatro alla Scala, Orchestra Sinfonica RAI, Orchestra Sinfonica della Scala, Filarmonica Italiana, Orchestra da Camera Milano Classica, Baroqu’Ensemble, Orchestra Sinfonica di S. Cecilia of Rome, Orchestra Sinfonica G. Verdi of Milan, Orchestra dei “Pomeriggi Musicali” of Milan, and have worked with the most acclaimed soloists and conductors of the international music scene (Abbado, Sinopoli, Giulini, Muti, Chailly, Santi, Maazel, Vedernicov, Sado, Renzetti). They have recorded symphonic, opera and chamber music for important record companies such as Amadeus, BMG, ARTS, DECCA, EMI.

An accurate and precise research on sound and experimentation with new rhythmic and percussive effects led them to create a new eclectic and innovative project in collaboration with pianist and composer Stefano Sposetti, arranging pop music tracks with flutes ranging from the bass to the piccolo.

I AMARCORD

about

The passion for cycling led me to discover the Romagna, especially the hinterland, where country roads and hills bring to the sea puting a strain on those who, like me, try to emulate the enterpreise of the great Pantani*. In the evening, back to the hotel, you can meet the people who run through these streets for a lifetime and let yourself be enchanted by their stories and memories, made even more vivid and genuine by the typical dialectal cadence.

"A m 'arcòrd ...", just like that, "I remember ...", in this way begin, in these lands, the stories of those who, now aged as good wine, want to tell you with a bit of nostalgia the moments and adventures now long gone.

I wonder if you too, listening to these songs, will say: "I remember ...".

I think everyone remembers melodies that have become world famous thanks to the combination of music and images, at the base of the worldwide success of cinema masterpieces such as "Amarcord" by F. Fellini, "The Godfather" by F. F. Coppola and "Once upon a time in the west" by S. Leone.

If you go to America or in every country of any Eastern Europe, well, who is not able to hum the melody of "Volare", or to impersonate, for just a single moment, the great Pavarotti on the notes of "O sole mio"?

On the other hand, the web suggests that such pieces as "Quando quando quando", "Azzurro", "Funiculì funiculà", "Estate" now belong to the history of italian popular music in the world.

In conclusion, I like to think of my grandfather playing with the clarinet a melody that seems out of time (“Parlami d’amore Mariù”).

“A m’arcord…”.

* Marco Pantani (Cesena 13th January 1970 - Rimini 14th February 2004) was an italian bikerider. He won the Tour the France and the Giro d'Italia in 1998. Untill now no one has won the two biggest Grand Tours in the same year.

I SONGS

about

Scrolling through the titles of the songs on the CD, the question may arise spontaneously: how is it possible to perform such songs with a classic flute quartet?

Everything starts almost as a game with the challange launched by Maestro Flaviano Rossi. I dedicate myself to write an arrangement thought for his flutist students, "something particular, that no one has ever done".

Thus was born the first draft of "Over the rainbow", always one of my favorite songs, followed by the romantic "She", the hit "Billie Jean" (in which the percussive effects are obtained by the beatbox technique) and the transcription of a classic by E. Morricone, Deborah's theme from "Once upon a time in America".

The enthusiasm and appreciation of the public in concert encourage me to go on in this musical adventure. The Polychrome Flute Quartet, in the meantime interpreter of these arrengements, is for me a great source of inspiration in the project.

I go back to the work and little by little I find in my hands a dozen songs with no relation between them. With only one thing in common: my choice falls on those melodies that I performed in the piano-bar of the hotels where I played during the years of the Conservatory and that magically came back to memory.

Back in the '80s, on air the radio palyed the hits of Madonna ("La isla bonita", from the album "Like a Virgin"), Michael Jackson ("Billie Jean", platinum record in 1989), as well as some "fusion music" melting rock and easy jazz ("Birdland","Agua de beber"), without forgetting the great pop classics of the past ("Yesterday","Nel blu dipinto di blu").

Now all these songs have been covered with a new dress, maybe a little out of fashion but certainly embroidered with care and passion.
